TTO facilitates Collaboration between IMSE Department and Shipyard for Maritime Innovation and Sustainability (8 Mar 2024)

The Technology Transfer Office has successfully facilitated a productive meeting between the Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering (IMSE) department and a renowned shipyard in Hong Kong.

 

With a rich history spanning over 150 years and now in its 5th generation, CHEOY LEE shipyard is actively engaged in collaborative efforts with HKU to explore innovation and technology advancements. Their primary areas of focus revolve around ship and yacht construction, with specific interests in:

1. Robotic Production: Investigating the integration of robotics to enhance shipbuilding processes.

2. Efficiency Enhancement through Automation: Exploring ways to streamline shipbuilding operations and improve overall efficiency.

3. Green Materials for Shipbuilding: Considering environmentally friendly materials for constructing ships and yachts.

4. Green Energy Solutions: Leveraging sustainable energy sources in the shipyard’s operations.

 

Through this partnership, the shipyard aims to harness the technological expertise of HKU to optimize and automate its vertical production of ships and yachts. This collaboration holds immense promise in advancing maritime innovation and fostering sustainable practices. Together, they are poised to make significant contributions to the industry.
